SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County Fire District 10 will hold a ceremony Wednesday morning to bring the remains of a fallen firefighter home to Spokane. The event will start the last leg of Shane Robins' trip home. Robins died on February 16 in a snorkeling accident in Maui while vacationing with his wife.
Two firefighters flew to Maui, Hawaii to escort Shane's ashes home to his family. The Alaska Airlines plane carrying Shane's ashes and his escorts will land around 9:30 a.m. and will be greeted by family members and a large contingent of firefighters.
The family and escort will then travel to Robins' home on a fire engine. The route will take a small procession into Airway Heights and then past Station 10-5.
A regular memorial service will be held Saturday at the Linwood Seventh Day Adventist Church in north Spokane. Donations to support the Robins family can be made to the Sunset Volunteer Firefighter's Association at:
